The Summer Concert!

Well, what can I say!! The children have been working extremely hard over the past few weeks to put a wonderful performance together.
On the day, the 7 children in 1D, along with 1P, all pulled together to put on a super show. They did extremely well to cope with the last minute changes. Well done!

We will be watching a recording of the concert together in class next week.

'Eye' didn't know that!

Thank you to Adam for giving his time this afternoon, to share his wealth of 'eye' knowledge and experience with the children in a fun and interactive way. We all learnt more about the anatomy of the eye, how the eyes of animals vary in size and shape, how they react in different light situations, the different ways in which vision is tested and what cataracts are.

The children enjoyed experimenting with the various models and pieces of equipment Adam uses.

Our last Yr1 forest school session

Today we built a fire to celebrate the end of a successful year of forest school. The children collected appropriate sticks to build a waffle and helped Mrs Shurety whittle sticks ready for the marshmallows. Result...yummy s'mores...sticky fingers...

Den building

Our term of den building in the forest came to end on Thursday. The groups have been working on their shelters for a good few weeks now and were very eager to show them off to one another.

10 more and less

This week the children have been learning to find 10 more and 10 less.

We started by using a 100 square to find the pattern - what happens when you add 10 or find 10 more?  (Looking at how the units stay the same and the tens side has one more ten)

The children set off on their own with a whiteboard and had a go by themselves.
i.e.

10 more than 25 is ____
10 more than 54 is _____

or

24 + 10 = ______
16 + 10 = _______

(We discussed how 10 more and + 10 are the same thing)

In the same way we explored 10 less and - 10.

10 less than game

Tracey Corderoy & Joe Berger

On Thursday afternoon, author Tracey Corderoy and illustrator Joe Berger visited the Infants. After sharing some of their stories and artistic tips, the children had a go themselves...creating a t-shirt for the rhino from the story No!

Mad Science!

James the mad scientist led an explosive workshop on Wednesday. The theme of the session was 'Potions', where all of the children explored the 3 states of matter with dry ice. Turning water to ice in 30 seconds, building a giant bubbling potion, carbonating plain drinking water and creating the same awesome smoke illusions used in the movies.

Happy 6th birthday, William!

Bye bye butterflies...

Over the past month we have been looking after 5 pets. They arrived as teeny weeny caterpillars and left as beautiful butterflies late last week. The children have very much enjoyed keeping a close eye on them, monitoring their stages of development and ensuring that they had enough sweet fluids to drink, when they broke out of their cocoons.

On Thursday we released them into the forest at Failand. It was a special moment...

French day

A fun filled French morning began with yummy pain au chocolate avec jus d'orange in the sunshine. After this, the children were kept busy with an array of activities such as; boules, songs and games led by Year 10 french pupils, spaghetti Eiffel Tower constructing as well taking part in a Tour de France Jersey design competition.

The morning came to an end with an assembly led by Madame Bendall, who awarded Benjie as best dressed in 1D. Bravo, Benjie!
