We love you Isabel!

All of the children have really made sure Isabel has had a brilliant last week at BGS. Today especially was very special, with Isabel celebrating her birthday too! She turns 6 on Monday.

Isabel has been a truly wonderful member of the class and is loved by all of the children. She will very much be missed!
We wish the whole of the family the very best of luck with their new life in Sydney...and we await our first chat via Skype!!

The children have been challenging themselves this week, by trying to solve many puzzles and problems!

Fraction fun!

In maths this week we have been looking at fractions. The focus has been on halves and quarters, although the children have all had a go at making play dough cookies and splitting them into thirds!

Following on nicely from last week, we explored halving as the opposite to doubling, and the children have been practising finding halves of numbers up to 20.

What is double 3?
So, what is half of 6?

Solar eclipse

There was a buzz of excitement on the playground this morning as we got ourselves into position to view the partial eclipse. The children used pinhole cameras and whiteboards in pairs, and looked through special eclipse glasses, which showed a fantastic image!

Adam and his Dad made a super camera themselves last night, which showed an impressively clear image...once we worked out how to use it! Great work, guys!

Stinkbomb and ketchup face!

The infants had the pleasure of meeting the author John Dougherty this morning. He inspired the children to write their own stories and make up their own songs...because...every story has to have it's own song...

In the woods...

Some of the children created their own colour and texture charts using the natural and man made materials they discovered.
Another small group practised the art of whittling...concentrating very carefully!

Happy World Book Day!

It was lovely to see such a colourful array of costumes and ideas, and children eager to share with me who they were and the exciting story they had brought in.

With inspiration from Julia Donaldson's 'Stick man', the children set off making their own, and enjoyed sharing their story books with their new stick friend.

After snack around the fire, they made finger puppet forest animals and created their own stories; acting them out in the woodland setting.

The day finished with a special assembly, which celebrated the wonderful world of stories!

Have you been to the seaside? Can you find it on a map?

What time is it?

What time will it be an hour later?
What time will it be half an hour later?
What time will it be 9 hours later? (Oscar)
What time will it be 2 and a half hours later? (Woody)
